Kirkland Middle School is looking for qualified candidates for a Long-Term Substitute Dean of Students position for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. Building administrators will contact you if you are selected for an interview.
Position SummaryLake Washington School District is seeking a highly qualified certificated educator to serve as a Dean of Students. The Dean of Students works under the direction of the principal. The successful candidate will provide support to the school administrative team in carrying out the school’s academic, social-emotional and behavioral program. The Dean of Students position requires knowledge of District procedures and policies, the ability to assume responsibility, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and is able to maintain confidentiality. The Dean of Students provides student and school supervision, communication to key stakeholders, and other school supports to ensure effective and efficient school operations.

SalaryLong-term substitute assignments in excess of twenty (20) days will be paid at the contract teacher base rate. See LWEA salary schedule posted on website. This position does not meet requirements for state health benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Washington State teaching (i.e. Continuing, Residency, or Professional)
- Three years of relevant experience
- Successful supervision of individual and groups of students
- Successful interventions for student behavioral, social, and emotional challenges
- Commitment to the mission and vision for all students
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex projects
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work with students that may present as behaviorally or emotionally escalated
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with school administrators to successfully complete a project/task
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both certificated and classified staff
- Demonstrates ability to implement restorative practice
- Demonstrated experience as an effective teacher
- Demonstrated experience working with families on challenging issues related to their child
- Demonstrated understanding of how community partners enhance school experiences for students
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and excellence for all students
- Demonstrated commitment to closing opportunity and achievement gaps
- Knowledge of school operations
- Knowledge of the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures related to school operations
- Ability to maintain boundaries between administrative responsibilities and Dean of Students responsibilities
- Ability to work with school principal to develop a calendar and workday that addresses the needed supervisory responsibilities

Background Check on Recommended Candidate: A reference check inquiry will also be made by Human Resources on recommended candidates. According to 1992 legislation ESHB 2518, all school employees with regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children are required to have a criminal background check, which includes fingerprints.
