Are you a big snacker? I honestly have never been a big eat in between meals kind of person. I fuel my in between meal time with coffee, for sure, but have never been one to really snack a lot on other things.

I’m starting to think that’s because maybe I haven’t been snacking on the right foods. I made this amazing recipe for Whiskey Honey Toasted Walnuts originally as a salad topper and as something to add texture and flavor to my morning yogurt. What I didn’t expect to happen was to create a new snack food that I just can’t stop eating! I should probably be embarrassed by the sheer number of walnuts I’ve eaten as a snack since creating this recipe. I just can’t seem to get enough of them!

I guess what I can say about this walnut recipe is that it can turn even a non-snacker into a snacker! It’s also a really easy recipe to make, so you can replenish your snack jar quite easily when you run out. This may or may not be a problem… since they are so easy to make, I’ve had a bit of a problem controlling myself 🙂

I hope you’ll give this recipe a try… top these toasted Diamond walnuts onto your salad, stir them into some vanilla yogurt at breakfast, or just pop some in your mouth at snack time. I think you’ll enjoy them as much as I continue to.

Question… I have made this recipe a couple of times and love it. But when I store the walnuts in a container they stick together. Am I doing something wrong?

Made it! Thanks for the recipe. They are sooo delicious! :))) BUT they are sticky and kind of “wet”… which makes my hands sticky. Did I do sth wrong or should it be like that? How to help it to make roasted walnuts not so sticky but completely crunchy?

FAQs

What does toasting do to walnuts? ›

Toasting nuts brings out their earthiness and minimizes any bitterness found in raw nuts. In just a few minutes, nuts will go from pale, somewhat waxy, and mild in flavor and smell, to golden brown, rich-tasting, and with an intensity and delicious aroma that adds a whole new level of flavor to any dish.

Is walnut good with whisky? ›

As a popular bar snack, nuts are a great nibble to pair with whisky. To balance the flavours found in a strong whisky variety, snack on sweet nuts such as almonds. If you prefer bourbon, opt for heavily roasted and bitter-flavoured nuts like walnuts to munch on.

How many walnuts are in an ounce? ›

A: Walnuts don't always come in a perfectly standard size. We found on the California Walnuts website, walnuts.org, that ¼ cup of walnuts is approximately 1 ounce. That amounts to between 12 and 14 halves. If you buy walnut pieces, as we often do, the quarter-cup measure might be the easiest.

Both raw and roasted nuts can be a healthy addition to most diets. Both types are a good source of beneficial nutrients such as Vitamin E, manganese, and omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.

What not to pair with whiskey? ›

The heat from roasting can compromise the omega-3 fatty acids in these nuts, which are integral for heart health and brain function,” added Sisodia.

Do walnuts lose nutrients when roasted? ›

Heat used during roasting nuts can slightly reduce their levels of antioxidants and vitamins. Roasting may also damage some of their healthy fats. Further, if stored improperly in heat or exposed to sun for too long, these fats can get rancid which will give the nuts an unpleasant taste and smell.
