Like all makeup products, some concealers are better for different skin types. The coverage may be just right for dark circles, discoloration or redness, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the best product for you long-term. “Some concealers are better for mature skin because they are more hydrating and don’t accentuate skin texture,” explains celebrity makeup artist Sean Harris, who has worked with Beyoncé and Lori Harvey.

Brandy Allen, a celebrity makeup artist whose clients include Rachel Lindsay and Dominique Fishback, agrees. “The best concealers for mature skin should have one key quality in common: hydration,” she says. “Nourishing, moisture-rich formulas are key when it comes to makeup for mature skin, especially concealers.”
In addition to finding your perfect shade, you’ll want a formula that melts into skin, rather than sitting on top of it or looking chalky. “I love concealers that are serum-like and stay creamy even after they have dried down,” says Harris, who offers this shopping tip: “Test concealer on your inner wrist to see how it will—or won’t—settle into fine lines.”
